Summary
Unemployment is one of the burning issue among women and youth. Due to lack of right skills, poor people are unable to utilize the available local resources. The poor people include the Luuka District communities in busoga sub-region of the country. forcible migrating to different places in Uganda and working as a daily labors, construction workers, cooks, brick workers and daily wages. The girls and women physically and sexually harassed by brick owners and contractors.
Challenges
Lack of skills and training opportunities among youth and adolescent girls After primary 7 class, the students were unable to join in higher education. Due to financial crisis, they are unable to undertake vocational & skills trainings. Lack of awareness and poor implementation of government schemes Given the poverty scenario, a number of poverty eradication measures have been initiated by the government-supported programs Lack of capacity building, skill and strong community-based institution
Solution.
The project will enhance the employability of 230 disadvantaged and poor Women and youth through vocational and skill Trainings and distribution of skilling equipment and materials in tailoring, welding, catering and baking in remote villages of mabembe and Watubba of Luuka district Uganda.
Long term-impact.
The women and youth (beneficiary) of watuuba community will benefit from the skills provided to them and the equipment which will help in creating employment for 230 women and youth enabling them to start earning a living as they sale their products throughout the year at fair prices without being cheated by middle-men. Beneficiary incomes should be able to double, allowing savings and investment into family health and education provision.
